FIVE FREEDOMS OF SHEEP
01. FREEDOM FROM THIRST, HUNGER AND MALNUTRITION
Sheep with proper nutrition are better able to cope with natural stress, like extreme weather.
Farmers ensure free access to clean water and proper nutrition.
02. FREEDOM FROM DISCOMFORT AND INADEQUATE SHELTER
Merino sheep should be protected from natural stress.
Farmers must ensure proper shade and shelter.
03. FREEDOM FROM INJURY AND DISEASE
Farmers must check regularly each sheep to prevent disease and illness or any health issues.
04. FREEDOM FROM PAIN OR DISTRESS
Farmers must manage sheep to avoid any unnecessary stress and pain.
Practices like mulesing are never permitted, and the facilities are properly maintained to ensure that they do not pose a risk of injury to the sheep.
05. FREEDOM TO EXPRESS A NORMAL BEHAVIOUR
Sheep must be free and roam in open pastures.
This allows them to freely express their natural behaviours with minimal human interference.
